GEMA & A.D.A.M. - GETTING READY FOR THE NEXT ROUND

On Friday 14 August (10 am - midday), the c/o pop Convention is inviting speakers and participants to a meet & greet brunch hosted by GEMA in the foyer of the Schauspielhaus. The perfect prelude to a packed day dedicated to communication, images/games, TV, books, and VUT practice workshops. Not to mention the evening programme... !

GEMA is becoming an increasingly important partner, and not just for c/o pop. Like c/o pop, GEMA places the creative individual at the forefront of its interests, and as for so many people, transformation and change are central issues of its daily work. GEMA is also represented at the »PresenTable« exhibition in the Schauspielhaus, and at the Convention. The organisation is involved in the panels »Values 2.0« on Thursday 13 August with Georg Oeller (a member of the GEMA board of directors since August 1, 2009), and »Games – bringing music into play« on Friday 14 August with Thimo Prziklang, director distribution II / international department and Industry and proxy PAECOL GmbH.

Friday 14 August (11.45 – 12.45) is also a chance for music authors to have their say. What do the authors of music actually live on – today and in the future?

The German Association of Composers, the German Association of Songwriters, the Composers Club and mediamusic e.V. have joined forces under the name of A.D.A.M. (Alliance of German Music Authors) to draw attention to a serious problem. Composers and songwriters are looking on with concern as the results of their work lose respect and value in the internet despite increasing exploitation figures. The threat comes not just from a general unwillingness to pay them, but from the increasing lack of understanding for the conditions and principles of their work displayed by music listeners and users.
As a result, A.D.A.M. is holding an information session during the c/o pop Convention at which Jörg Evers (president of the German Association of Composers), Frank Dostal (president of the German Association of Songwriters) and John Groves (president of the Composers Club) will discuss current problems. The session is moderated by Micki Meuser, vice president of mediamusic e.V. The keynote address will be given by Michael Söndermann (Office of Cultural Economic Research Cologne/Zurich and member of governing board of the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, Montreal).
