Chic Belgique @ c/o pop & ONE NIGHT WITH THE IVORY TOWER
In terms of fashion, Cologne has developed significantly over the past few years. A fine network of independent labels, brands and shops has sprung up which, in the absence of a major trade show, has been able to grow relatively unnoticed. The cradle and centre of this trend was the city’s Belgian Quarter, an area whose bars, restaurants and clubs made it an inspiring working environment for fashion and jewellery designers. Five years ago, as a reaction to developments in the scene, two of the Belgian Quarter’s fashionistas and shop owners got together with designer friends (Moni Wallberg, Nina Hempel and Gerd Siekmann) and created the pocket guide Chic Belgique.
Originally featuring 14 stores, it now covers 29, most of which sell their own brand clothing and/or feature young and unconventional labels. Chic Belgique quickly established itself as a reliable, independent and nationally recognized guide to the fashion, jewellery and design scene, and is a must-read for visitors to Cologne’s trendiest district.
Chic Belgique is now celebrating its fifth birthday, and as part of c/o pop is organising a late night Saturday shopping night involving all 29 shops featured in the guide. Not only will the shops be open for business, they will also be showcasing local bands, artists, DJs or simply good music.
Participating stores include Schmicking, Blauer Montag, Frau Kayser, Time Tunnel Fashion, Kiki Peters, Gold, Marcus Götten, Chang 13, Red Rabbit Fashion, La Seda, Famoz, Form Werk, Blutsgeschwister, Magazin Populaire and Trippen.
